NatHERS / VEU energy assessors — rebate paperwork done right.

To claim the VIC Energy Upgrades (VEU) rebate on a window retrofit, an accredited energy assessor has to model the existing house before the upgrade and verify the post-upgrade performance. Same goes for a NatHERS star uplift if you want it documented for resale. We work alongside two local Casey-and-Cardinia assessors who attend the site visit, lodge the VEEC paperwork, and produce the post-install certificate. On a typical 15–20-window Berwick or Cranbourne job the rebate nets off $2,500–$4,500 from the quoted price — worth getting the assessor in early.

Render & weatherboard patchers — frame-line make-good.

When we replace an entire frame in a 1980s–2000s render-look brick-veneer house (very common in the Berwick growth corridor, Cranbourne North, Officer), the old frame sometimes leaves a 5–15mm render shoulder that needs to be cut back and re-finished to match the new thermally-broken frame line. Assessor first or glazier first?

Assessor first, where a VEU rebate or a NatHERS rating is on the table. The assessor models the existing house against a benchmark, which the glazier’s spec is then measured against to calculate the rebate. Skip the pre-upgrade assessment and you lose the rebate — there’s no retroactive option.

When does the wind-rating check happen?

At quote stage. We check the AS 4055 wind classification for the site (N2 for most flat suburban SE Melbourne lots, N3 for elevated Old Berwick and hilltop Endeavour Hills) and spec the AS 2047 wind-rated product accordingly. The rating prints on the compliance label on every frame.

Do we need the heritage permit before quoting?

No — we quote on the retrofit approach assuming the permit (where one is needed) will go through. Most retrofit-into-existing-sash jobs in heritage overlays don’t need a permit at all because the external appearance is preserved. If a frame replacement is unavoidable on a heritage facade, our planning consultant lodges the permit and we proceed once it’s approved.

Does the IGU come with a warranty?

10 years on the IGU edge seal (against argon leakage and seal failure) from the AS 4666-compliant manufacturer. 7 years on the thermally-broken aluminium frame. 12 months on workmanship and seal dressing. Warranty paperwork lodged at handover with the VEU and NatHERS certificates.
